The Public Service Department works to provide a high standard of City services within the following divisions:

  • Electrical Division - The Electrical Division manages a variety of electrical and traffic management functions, that include:
    • Maintenance of 52 community traffic signals, 1,427 streetlights, 14 school flashers, and 2 hazardous intersection flashers.
    • Performing traffic studies.
    • Maintaining electrical systems for numerous City facilities that include: 9 City parks; 3 City pools; the Senior Center; Municipal Services Center; Public Service Center; Northam Park Tennis Courts; the Mallway

In recent years, the division has been phasing in new energy efficient and longer lasting lighting systems (LEDs), resulting in efficiencies and cost savings to the City.  Electrical also maintains the community's neighborhood lights.

  • Engineering Division - Oversees the City's street maintenance program, inspection and engineering design assistance for City projects and new commercial or residential developments.  Additional information about some of these services can be found found via the following links:
  • Fleet Maintenance Division - The Fleet Maintenance Division provides an in-house service shop for all City vehicles, providing both routine, and as necessary, maintenance and repair to ensure our police, fire and emergency medical vehicles are full operational, as well as the many other vehicles and equipment used daily by the organization.  The division utilizes a maintenance and vehicle replacement tracking system called FASTER.  FASTER helps to keep an up-to-date log of all City vehicles, from mileage to regular maintenance performed, repairs made and more, and helps determine when a vehicle should be replaced.
  • Public Works Division - Responsible for the manufacture and maintenance of City signage, street surface repairs and painting, street sweeping, fall leaf collection, snow and ice removal, and assistance with special events.  In addition, the Public Works Division maintains the City's storm and sanitary sewer systems. Additionally, this department manages the provision of solid waste services to the community.
