Milling and overlay is a two step process to repair existing pavement.

Milling is the first step in the process. It involves grinding and removing a pavement’s surface to remove high spots and provide a level surface.

An asphalt overlay involves spraying a tack coat (tar) over the milled surface and is then covered with a new asphalt (blacktop) wearing surface. This is typically a one day operation. Traffic will be maintained as best as possible.

The milling and overlay process requires all cars parked on the street, be relocated. It is recommended that these vehicles be moved to a nearby side street for the day the work is scheduled. Temporary “No Parking” signs will be placed to provide residents with advance notice of either process. Mill and Overlay streets are generally opened to traffic by the end of the work day.
