LifeLong Learning & Leisure
A division of the Parks & Recreation Department, LifeLong Learning & Leisure is recognized as the largest non-credit adult education program in Central Ohio. The division coordinates more than 500 fun and educational classes in the community each year. Fully funded by its registration fees, LifeLong Learning & Leisure provides a variety of programs within the following categories:
•Online Courses –We offer a wide range of highly interactive courses that you can take over the Internet. All of our courses include expert instructors, many of whom are nationally-known authors. •Enrichment – classes can show you how to manage your life and your environment. Learn the fun and wacky art of improv comedy; explore the world of life coaching; explore the meanings of your dreams and delve into understanding past lives. Also enjoy a hands-on class in podcasting.
•Writing & Language – You can start with the basics of grammar review and move to creative writing. You can also learn the basics of French, Italian and Spanish.
•Travel – classes take you to Scottish Highlands as well as roaming through Russia. Also explore Roman monuments of France.
•Self Care & Health – Take a proactive approach to your health, from understanding joint pain, to learning how to naturally combat colds and flu. Also discover the personal benefits of self defense, massage, self hypnosis and meditation.
•Music & Dance – classes get you moving with ballroom and line dancing, belly dancing and hip hop. Learn how to play the mountain dulcimer.
•Fine Arts – "Brush" up on your painting skills, or master a variety of media such as pottery and photography.
•Crafts – classes can teach you a new hobby in a fun hands-on format. Classes include digital scrapbooking and soapmaking. If you're looking to keep your hands busy, try creating a fused glass pendant, fused fabric art or knitting.
•Home & Garden – Learn how to make your home more "green" and organized. Urban Gardener is back and ready to teach you low maintenance gardening as well as starting from seed.
•Food & Drink – There are always new recipes to try with hands-on cooking classes that cater to the beginner as well as the more experienced cook. This season add some enticing dishes to keep you warm and full. A series of wine tasting classes help educate the palette on the subleties between different grapes from across the globe.
•Professional Skills - Looking for ways to advance your career? Take classes from figuring out the direction of your chosen path, to creating your resume and getting that sometimes elusive interview. Also learn how to network to your best advantage, the basics of grantwriting and gain knowledge on cutting edge marketing strategies.
•Computers – A range of classes that show the beginner how to get started and teach users the tricks and shortcuts of various software applications.
•Money – Learn tips on how to spend your money, boost your credit score and live debt free. Also gain insights into how you feel about money and understand the stages of your investment life.
•Bridge – Become a master of the game of Bridge through this series of workshops and supervised bridge games designed to suit all levels of players.
•Sports – Look to enjoy fresh, open-air fun by learning to play tennis and golf in our spring/summer season.
•Yoga & Fitness – an extensive range of fitness classes are sure to keep you motivated, including Yoga, spinning, weight training, aerobics classes and more. Try Zumba for some high-impact moves and combinations.
