Our Programming
Supply ListsFull details of our ongoing programming can be found in the Parks & Recreation Activity Guide, but here's a sampling of the variety of categories and activities you can expect to enjoy at our facility:
Enrichment - Enjoy an ever-changing selection of offerings to engage, entertain and challenge you. Experience out-of-the-box adventures with the LLL chapter of the Ladies Explorer Club (including a hot air balloon ride and rappelling in the Hocking Hills!), enter the world of voiceovers and make a demo tape, take an eye-opening tour of historic downtown taverns or spend a lofty afternoon learning about aviation at the OSU Airport. You can even get your hands a little dirty with basic bicycle maintenance or hone your car buying skills before making the big purchase.
Writing & Language - Explore various writing genres and tap into your creativity with the assistance of experienced, published authors. Turning History into Stories and Writing for Newspapers are both new this quarter. Prepare for an upcoming trip or just exercise your brain cells as you learn to converse in a different language.
History & Travel - Visit exotic locales and intriguing historical sites, with our globe-trotting, travel-savvy tour guides. We can acquaint you with some fascinating Queens of England, whisk you off to the wilds of Scotland and regale you with the Splendors of Renaissance France. Gene Gilliom premiers a recent trip to Namibia, Africa, complete with his amazing pictures. Closer to home, you can discover all that the Windy City of Chicago has to offer and enjoy a surprising insider look at Columbus, revealing the cool highlights and little-known gems of our own city.
Health & Self Care - Take a proactive approach to your overall health by investigating various aspects of wellness, both mind and body. Make your own well-being and personal fulfillment a priority. You'll feel better for it! Take a look at Juicing for Health, Raw Foods Basics and Laughter Yoga. The popular and practical Self-Defense for Women is offered by the UA Police Division in a longer, once-a-year format.
Music & Dance - New music offerings include Classical Concert Plus at the Southern Theatre (with a special behind-the-scenes upgrade), an opportunity to join a Broadway Choral Group, Introduction to Classical Music and Group Guitar for Beginners. Take to the floor and get moving in any of our many dance classes, including the new Tribal Fusion offering. Fans of Dancing with the Stars can try out Dance Plus Ballroom. The only thing missing is the Mirror Ball trophy!
Fine Arts & Crafts - Try your hand at the potter's wheel or improve your photography techniques. Learn to draw and paint in a variety of mediums or experiment with a new craft, all in a relaxed, hands-on format. Watercolor Botanicals, a new Color Mixing Workshop, Night Photography and Hand-Crafted Silver Ring are featured this spring, and Stained Glass with Julie Breeding returns to the LLL line-up.
Home & Garden - Learn all about Herb Gardening and reap the benefits with fresh ingredients you can pick right outside your back door. Also our Professional Organizers can help you take control of your messy garage and basement and then advise you on organizing unwanted "stuff" for a great (and profitable!) garage sale.
Food & Drink - Check out our Spotlight Chef Series with Nicola Bedalli, featuring deliciously-authentic Italian Cuisine cooking classes at his new UA restaurant. Also new, a Mixology Primer at Latitude 41 restaurant in the Renaissance Hotel, with locally-acclaimed mixologist Cris Dehlavi, head bartender at M. Enjoy the Spring Wine Dinner at Gallo's, learn about Microbrewing at Barley's and taste Exclusive Old Single Malts at the Refectory. The Saturday Sous Chef series continues with popular Chef Drew Curlett. Expand your culinary horizons!
Technology - Embrace your inner techie by increasing your understanding, and your comfort level, with multi-tasking new electronics and social media. New this spring, Adobe Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5, along with returning favorites iPad, iPhone, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Sports & Fitness - LLL's ongoing fitness program offers spinning, yoga, weight training, Zumba and aerobic dancing, along with several great low-impact choices. Try the popular hooping class, a total body workout using hoops that aren't quite the hula hoop of old! Our extensive range of fitness classes is sure to keep you motivated, no matter what your fitness level. It's also the season for Tennis, Golf and Aqua Aerobics classes.
Online Classes - A wide range of interactive online courses are available through our partnership with ed2go.
