As springs takes hold, you can expect to start seeing evidence that Upper Arlington is celebrating its Centennial year at different spots around the community. Be on the lookout for banners, gateway and street signs, as well as Centennial decals on City vehicles for starters. Possibly the most notable indicator will be the addition of the Centennial bear logo on the water tower at Kingsdale.

Since March 20 is Upper Arlington’s official birthday, two events have been scheduled to commemorate the occasion:

UA’s Birthday Celebration
3:30-6:30 pm, Tuesday, March 20, Tremont Library
Turning 100 is certainly cause for celebration and that’s just what the Centennial Task Force plans to do! On the anniversary of Upper Arlington’s official incorporation as a village in 1918, guests can take part in a fun scavenger hunt using mock-ups of the History Walk markers that will be installed at Northam Park, listen to popular music from every decade since 1918 and enjoy a variety of Centennial themed deserts. The celebration includes an anniversary ceremony towards the end of the evening. This is one party you won’t want to miss!

UA Birthday Bash
11 am, Tuesday, March 20, Senior Center, 1945 Ridgeview Road
The UA Senior Center invites area seniors to join their your friends for a Centennial-themed monthly luncheon. Hear about UA’s history, then enjoy songs from the past 10 decades courtesy of Trombones Plus with The Little Big Band. Cost is $10, and reservations are required. Call 614-583-5320.

While many UA Centennial projects are already taking shape, there’s always more we can do to celebrate this special year. A Centennial Fund has been established at the Upper Arlington Community Foundation as a convenient place to make a tax free donation to support the Centennial. Plus, a limited number of opportunities remain to support The History Walk. For a $10,000 donation, families, service groups or businesses will be recognized for their support of the Centennial via a plaque on one of the History Walk pillars. Call 614-583-5040 to be connected with a member of the Centennial Task Force today.
