While Leadership UA’s Adult Program is designed to enhance the leadership skills of our adult community members, the Youth Leadership Program helps members of Upper Arlington’s next generation develop leadership skills as they advance in their high school career and begin to consider various professional paths. High school-aged students selected for the program will get the opportunity to attend one-to-two classes a month that feature speakers or activities designed to promote various leadership topics.

Since its establishment, Leadership UA’s Youth Program builds leadership by helping young students conceive, develop and implement a community project that is valuable to them and serves their community. Projects such as hosting a Family Fair for a local YMCA Family Center, purchasing new laptops for the Boys+Girls Club after school program or raising $2,600 for the American Red Cross Tsunami Relief Fund are just a few examples of past projects that have helped students develop their own leadership styles and enhance skills such as time management, project organization and team building.

The 2018 Youth program begins in January and will conclude with the class service project in April. Ideal participants for the program are ninth and 10th grade students who either live or attend school in Upper Arlington. The cost of the program is $275, which includes course materials and speakers. To view the class curriculum, head to or email Executive Director Mary Beth Cowardin at [email protected] for additional details. This is an amazing opportunity for students to make a difference in not only for their school and community, but for themselves.

The deadline to apply is December 20, 2017 and applications can be either emailed to [email protected] or mailed to Leadership UA Youth Program, PO Box 21190, Upper Arlington, OH 43221.
