Planning Division
The Planning Division guides change within the community based on the goals and strategies of the City's Master Plan and Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) in order to preserve its quality of life and sustain property values.
The UDO regulates land use and development within the City. Zoning regulations protect property values by ensuring new development is compatible with the surrounding community and maintains the character of established neighborhoods. The City has seven residential zoning districts and six commercial zoning districts, each having different requirements and limitations pertaining to use, building location, size, setback, and other standards.
Planning staff enforces the UDO by working pro-actively and collaboratively with developers, architects, contractors, and Residents to ensure that the city's Master Plan and all applicable codes are followed. Staff carefully reviews all building plans, makes recommendations to the Board of Zoning and Planning when special approvals are necessary, and is involved in all aspects of zoning, building, and development within the City.
Whether a project is a large commercial development or simply a small residential fence project, Planning staff members are happy to assist applicants and Residents through the permitting process. Feel free to contact the Planning Division with any questions you may have.
