Building Division

 
The City's Building Division works with residents, businesses and contractors to ensure new and remodeled buildings are properly constructed per State of Ohio and Upper Arlington building standards.  Building Division Staff reviews construction plans, inspects buildings and mechanical systems, and issues permits to contractors working on improvement projects.  Staff goes to great lengths to make sure those working in Upper Arlington understand codes, ordinances, hours of work, process and what is expected.

Plan Review:

Review for residential building permits takes between five and ten business days.  Because a contracted commercial building code plan reviewer, commercial building permits take between ten and 15 business days to review.  Trade permits are obtained over-the-counter or can be processed through the mail.  Permits cannot be processed online at this time.

Inspections:

To schedule an inspection, please request via our Viewpoint system or call the Inspection Line at 614-583-5080.  Your request must be recorded before 3 PM for next business day service.  Please be sure to leave the following details when you call:  job address, permit number, date of inspection and contact information.  Inspections cannot be scheduled in person or by e-mail.  Building, HVAC, and Driveway Approach inspections occur Monday thru Friday except holidays.  Plumbing inspections must be scheduled with Franklin County Public Health at 614-525-3160.  Residential electrical inspections occur Monday, Wednesday and Friday only, while Commercial inspections occur each day.  The Electrical Inspection Line is 614-583-5081.
