The following are guidelines for collection of household refuse on your designated collection days:

  • Place all refuse in plastic bags, refuse cans or tied into bundles.
  • Containers cannot exceed 50 pounds in weight or 35 gallons in capacity
  • Bundles cannot exceed five feet in length or 50 pounds in weight.
  • Make sure all containers are accessible for collection by 7 a.m. on the day they are scheduled for pick up.
  • Each container or bundle requires one Solid Waste Sticker to be eligible for pick up.

How many stickers do I need for bulk items?

Bulk Collection List
Appliances and some bulk items require more than one sticker - review the list (linked above) for accepted items and the appropriate number of stickers. *New regulation: For curbside bulk collection, mattresses and box springs must be wrapped in plastic. This is to ensure the safety of the crews, helping to reduce the potential spread of bed bugs.

Safely Disposing of Used "Sharps"

Residents are asked to give full consideration to how they dispose of materials that could cause a health or safety risk to our Solid Waste workers. Contaminated objects that can penetrate the skin are considered "sharp" objects by the Occupational Safety And Health Administration regulations governing blood borne pathogens. These items include lancets, hypodermic needles, syringes, scalpel blades and non-household glass articles that have been broken.

In the case of an individual using sharps for the purpose of in-home care or treatment, these items may be disposed of as part of the City's regular refuse collection program, as long as care is taken to package them into a rigid container that is clearly marked as "Sharp Waste" prior to disposal into a refuse receptacle. Acceptable containers include liquid detergent and bleach bottles, two liter pop bottles and coffee cans. These containers should be securely sealed with heavy tape.

Your cooperation in keeping the work environment as safe as possible for our Solid Waste crews is greatly appreciated.
