Basic Job Duties - Extinguishes fires, provides rescue services, is a certified EMT-B or EMT-P, carries out home and building inspections, maintains equipment in constant readiness to respond to emergency situations.

Required Qualifications - High school graduate and able to pass a Civil Service written examination, physical capability test, background investigation, and drug screen.  State of Ohio EMT-Paramedic required upon appointment and Firefighter II preferred.

Age Restriction - Candidates must have celebrated their 18th birthday by the day of their appointment (they may take the Civil Service exam if 17 years).

Salary - $48,866 - $77,062/year

  1. Go to the City of Upper Arlington’s website at 
  2. In the column on the left of the page, click on “Job Interest Card.”
  3. Check the box for “Fire & EMS” and any other job category you may be interested in pursuing.
  4. Enter your contact information. 

Once this is completed, you will receive email notification when a job in Fire & EMS is posted. All candidates will be required to register at to take the exam. Once the testing period closes, the top candidates will be invited to continue in the process.
