BEHIND THE SCENES: PLANNING THE FESTIVAL
Welcome Letter from the Director
Welcome to our 44th festival! We have been a part of Upper Arlington's holiday for generations. The Festival is the largest event we produce, but it is not all we do.Beyond this event we also offer, in partnership with the Cultural Arts Commission and UA Arts, a variety of programs in the arts. The Cultural Arts Division serves the community of Upper Arlington by completing our mission to provide and promote a diverse, lively, accessible arts environment that advances the cultural assets and enriches the quality of life of the community. Our programs include: Arts in Community Education; Arts in Community Spaces; Arts in Work Spaces; Concourse Gallery visual arts exhibits; Music in the Parks free summer concerts; hosting a diverse selection of theatrical productions and a Permanent Art Collection and take place at a variety of sites including community parks, gathering places and classrooms.
Beyond offering transformative experiences, in Ohio the arts mean jobs - with nearly 18,000 arts related businesses employing more than 88,000 people the arts are an economic driver.Cultural activities attract tourists and spur the creation of ancillary facilities such as restaurants, hotels, and the services needed to support them. Arts and culture-related industries, also known as "creative industries," provide direct economic benefits to states and communities: They create jobs, attract investments, generate tax revenues, and stimulate local economies through tourism and consumer purchases."
We define artistic success by those programs that challenge the participants and the artists, whether it is rethinking an arts discipline or space. Our most critical resource is our community's appreciation for the arts. From creating visual art in our classrooms and parks and gallery to participating in performing arts events to purchasing art from local, regional, and national artists, our community participates in the arts.Artistic success stimulates our community members to value and attend our art offerings as a part of their individual and collective experience and we are grateful for their support. To be a part of the art friend us on facebook by searching for City of Upper Arlington.
As you walk around today enjoying this event, marvel at the idea that while we are enjoying an artful day, we are also making a positive impact on our economy. To be a part of the art friend us on Facebook by searching for City of Upper Arlington.
