Behind the Scenes: Planning the 2011 FestivalWelcome Letter from the Director
Welcome to our 45th festival! We are honored to be a part of Upper Arlington's holiday weekend. The Festival is the largest event we produce, but it is not all we do. Beyond this event we also offer, in partnership with the Cultural Arts Commission and UA Arts, a variety of programs in the arts including: Arts in Community Education; Arts in Community Spaces; Concourse Gallery visual arts exhibits; Music in the Parks free summer concerts; hosting a diverse selection of theatrical productions and take place at a variety of sites including community parks, gathering places and classrooms.
The Festival is an incredible undertaking and we are amazed each year at the incredible ingenuity involved in its success. Here then is the Festival by the numbers: 11 months to plan; 15 members of a dynamic team to coordinate; 3 jurors to choose 200 artists from some 350 applicants; 13 city departments involved in every aspect of the event; 249 volunteers and 20,000 visitors supporting the arts.
As you walk around today enjoying this event, marvel at the idea that while we are enjoying an artful day, we are also making a positive impact on our economy. To be a part of the art friend us on Facebook - Facebook.com/CityofUAPR and follow us on Twitter @CityofUAPR.
